If you had asked me 8 months ago if I would have a licensing deal, I would have laughed and said, “Are you crazy?” But I do and it’s a pretty amazing feeling.

Flash back to the beginning of pandemic…I had no idea how to create a surface pattern design, no illustration or surface design portfolio, no agent, no licensing deals. I made a decision to create a brand spankin new portfolio and seek representation. It took 6 months of designing and creating work, putting together a (what I think) is a beautiful portfolio, and researching licensing agents before I was ready to submit my work.

I signed with my Agent, Cruise Creatives in November and just signed my first licensing deal with Tree-Free Greetings!!! Check out my first Licensed Illustration!!!

WHAT I LEARNED…

You just have to begin.

Was my portfolio perfect when I submitted to agents? Absolutely not, lol. But it was me – It reflected my personality, my style, and the artwork I really love to create.

You don’t have to wait for things to be perfect – it may never be. That’s just the reality of things. It’s especially true for artists. We look at things for so long we start to dislike them altogether. The doesn’t mean they aren’t beautiful, wonderful, ‘marketable’. It just means you’ve been looking at them for tool long :)

The important thing is to just begin reaching for the things you want.

Time will not wait for you to be ready. And who knows…you may even get what you want, sooner than you anticipated :)
